Class Description:
Explore color through the beautifully unpredictable process of marbling.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll begin by developing a custom color palette inspired by a photograph, artwork, favorite object—or simply a combination of colors you’re drawn to. We’ll guide you through mixing, adjusting, and balancing your colors before taking them to the marbling tray.
You’ll learn how to prepare a marbling bath, apply and manipulate color, create a variety of patterns, and transfer your designs onto different surfaces. There will be plenty of time to experiment with test pulls before creating your finished pieces.
Each participant will work with a wide variety of materials, including different weights and textures of fabric, artist-quality papers, and leather. Because everyone will have their own individual marbling bath, each piece will measure approximately 8½ × 11 inches or smaller—an ideal size for framing, stitching, bookbinding, collage, and other future projects.
You’ll also create a color-mixing recipe card documenting your custom palette so you can recreate it again.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a coordinated collection of one-of-a-kind marbled materials, all created in a palette that is entirely your own.
Bring one piece of color inspiration, such as a photograph, fabric swatch, paint chip, magazine page, or small object. No previous experience is necessary, and all materials are included.

Denise Ambrosi is the founder and creative director of These Hands Makers Collective, a community art studio dedicated to helping people reconnect with creativity through hands-on experiences.
A lifelong maker with a passion for exploring traditional crafts through a modern lens, Denise loves introducing students to art forms they may have never encountered before... from pottery and perfume making to fiber arts and paper crafts. Her workshops emphasize curiosity over perfection, inviting participants to slow down, experiment, and create meaningful objects by hand.
Inspired by the stories we carry and the objects we keep, Denise believes the most memorable projects are the ones that become part of our lives long after class ends.
