In this three and half hour workshop, you will learn how to create and make your very own terrazzo tray and also learn other ways and formats Jesmonite can be used.
Jesmonite AC100 is an acyclic and resin-based material. It is solvent free and has no VOC's so it is environmentally friendly.
You will learn how to mix the Jesmonite material and cast it into silicone moulds. But what will make it individual to you is you get to play and experiment with many different color flecks to give your Jesmonite tray that look of Terrazzo and make your design individual to you.
Tray dimensions are 200mm diameter, 18mm in height.
About the artist
Katie Gillies is a surface and product designer from Nottingham, England. She set up her studio from her parents garage back in 2015 and began doing both personal design projects and commissioned work for clients. Later in 2016, she moved into a studio in Nottingham’s city centre, where she still is today (now with a very pink floor).
Katie specializes in using Jesmonite, which is an acrylic and resin based material, to create her colorful terrazzo surfaces and products. Every piece is carefully cast by hand and is completely unique in color and design. Her terrazzo works can be used for interior projects and products, ranging from wall panels to homeware goods.
As well as creating bespoke surfaces and homeware products, she also holds a number of casting workshops around the U.K., where you can learn and create your own pair of terrazzo coasters.
