Join Rachel Corry of Rachel Sees Snail Shoes for a shoe making session, specifically geared toward making Mules! Mules are slides with a closed toe and open heel. They’re casual, chic, and fairly simple to make. Her technique for making these is relatively quick compared to more traditional methods: You will basically use a last (shoe form) to form the toe shapes and then assemble them as you would a sandal. It’s an easy enough process to replicate at home with a few small investments and no machinery.
During your 2 days together, you'll spend about 8-hrs designing, cutting, fitting, and building a pair of mules for your own feet. There are many variables to play with including material, toe shape, heel height, and color.
Day 1: designing, choosing patterns, choosing leather colors and textures, lining leathers, dying leather, shaping soles, shaping uppers, stacking heels, etc.
Day 2: fitting uppers, lots of scratching and gluing, midsoles, attaching heel/soles, edge finishing, nailing, adding laces and hardware.
Making your own shoes can be an incredibly gratifying learning experience. We hope you can join us!
*Note: You may want to wear or bring easy on/off footwear for our day of working with your feet. You’ll be thankful you did! Also, if you require eye-glasses for seeing up-close, these can be handy to remember to bring because we will be doing some precision cutting.
Rachel will email the participants in advance to ask about shoe size, last shape preference (round, almond, pointy, square) and colors.

Class / Workshop Etiquette: All scheduled classes and workshops start and end on time. Please be prompt in your arrival and departure, as we often have other classes starting after yours. Arriving 30 minutes late to a class counts as a no-show, and no make up class will be offered. Teachers are subject to change.
Refund policy: THESE HANDS, LLC. reserves the right to cancel any class due to low enrollment or unforeseen teacher conflicts. If a class is cancelled, we will do our best to reschedule the session. If you are unable to attend, you will be issued a refund.
Cancellation Policy: You may cancel a class for a full refund 21 days in advance of class/workshop start date. After that, the class is non-refundable. This applies to all regular workshops.
COVID policy: If you test positive for COVID, please do not attend your scheduled workshop. Instead please contact us and let us know that you cannot attend. If you would like to receive a credit towards a future workshop, please email us your Positive PCR results (it must be a valid test with your name included) or a doctor's note. No refunds will be issued.
Gift Cards: Gift certificates can be applied toward all workshops, labs or These Hands Makers Collective merchandise. Gift Cards can not be redeemed for cash. Gift Cards do not expire.
Parking: Please note parking signs and regulation to avoid getting a ticket!
